Temple- SAMBALPUR BARAGARH LORD SIVA PARVATI BAHAGHARA ( SITAL SASTHI)

ASADHA MASA SUKLA PAKHYA PANCHAMI TITHI A GREAT OCCASSION FOR CELEBRATION SITAL SASTHI LORD SIVA PARVATI MARRIAGE A HUGE DEVOTIEES FROM ALL CORNER ATTEND AND WITNESS THE MARRIAGE AND CELEBRATE.

Yesterday I had been to a wedding reception. It was held in a temple near my place. There were lots of people chatting away happily, colourful lights, samianas, good food, loud music with the newly weds decked up in beautiful clothes.. just like any other wedding u may think.Or not really..

Here the guests had not come to bless the couple but to seek blessings instead. For it was the wedding of their gods,Shiva and his consort Parvati.

It's the festival of Shital Sasthi that marks the holy alliance of lord Shiva and Parvati..Celebrated all over Orissa, especially western Orissa, this festival draws one of the biggest crowds after the Rath Yatra of Puri. But most predominant among all the celebrations takes place in the towns of Bargarh and Sambalpur, where almost each locality(pada) has its own celebrations.

The rituals are spread over a week.On the lines of a Hindu wedding, one family is chosen as the family of the bride and another of the groom. And on the day of the marriage, shiva's family comes to the bride's(parvati's) place for the bahaghara(wedding).People take part in long road processions from the groom's place to the bride's taking the deities in open chariots with various designer motiffs(parbha) serving as background.Artists perform many folk dances, like the bagha nrutya, sambalpuri, the mascot dances etc along the way.Wedding vows are exchanged followed by Kanya daan. One can witness some emotionally charged moments when Parvati leaves for Shiva's abode. It just shows that in India people take their marriages seriously,as they do their gods.

I was invited to the ceremony in the Shiva temple near my place. It's a pretty old temple, lying in the heritage belt of Bhubaneswar. There are many temples in and around the periphery of Lingaraj temple that are very old with lots of historical importance like the kedar gouri,Anant vasudev,Nageswar temple etc..I'd never been to any such function before.Though I'm religious,I'm not someone who visits the temple regularly. But i really liked this experience.

I feel festivals are not just mere occasions of celebrations.Every festival has a lot of positive thoughts, ideas and lessons to offer.Witnessing or being a part of one such event might change the hearts of some of the skeptics who don't have faith in the our social institutions.Sounds dramatically cliched but then marriages are made in heaven, realized on earth. :)

How much water is there on Earth?

Water is a vital element made up of two elements hydrogen and Oxygen as H2O (one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms). On our earth around 70.78 percent of it is covered by water.  Which is equivalent to 326,000,000,000,000,000,000 gallons (326 million trillion gallons. Ninety-eight percent of the water on the planet is in the oceans, but containing salt in it which makes in not safe to drink. Now out of 2% of fresh water, 1.6 percent is locked up in the polar ice caps and glaciers. The rest of water is present in the rivers, wells, float in the air as clouds and water vapor, or is locked up in plants and animals. 6 countries (Brazil, Russia, Canada, Indonesia, China and Colombia) have 50 percent of the world's freshwater reserves.

  • Water on Earth moves continually through the hydrological cycle of evaporation and transpiration (evapotranspiration), condensation, precipitation, and runoff, usually reaching the sea. Evaporation and transpiration contribute to the precipitation over land.
  • The boiling point of water (and all other liquids) is dependent on the barometric pressure. For example, on the top of Mt. Everest water boils at 68 °C (154 °F), compared to 100 °C (212 °F) at sea level.
  • The maximum density of water occurs at 3.98 °C (39.16 °F).
  • Its density is 1,000 kg/m3
  • At 4181.3 J/(kg·K), water has a high specific heat capacity, as well as a high heat of vaporization (40.65 kJ·mol−1)
  • The collective mass of water found on, under, and over the surface of a planet is called the hydrosphere.
  • Our body is 65 percent water, so if we weigh 100 kg, 65 kg of we are water

Q 1.Which is The First Ever Web Site in the World?

Ans: The very first website was nxoc01.cern.ch running on a NeXT computer at CERN, and the very first web page washttp://nxoc01.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html. It was first put online on 6 August 1991. This website do not exists today.

The only people who actually had web browser software were Berners-Lee and his colleagues at CERN. Yes, Sir Timothy John "Tim" Berners-Lee(TimBL) published the first-ever website.  He is a British computer scientist, MIT professor and the inventor of the World Wide Web. He is also the founder of the World Wide Web(WWW) Foundation.

While making the First website, CERN physicists had an idea to connect hypertext with the Internet and personal computers, thereby having a single information network to help them share all the computer-stored information at the laboratory.
